After the patient&#039;s legs are placed on supports on either side, their lower body is covered with a sterile drape. The examination consists of three steps: examination of the external genitalia, speculum examination (examination of the cervix and vagina), and bimanual examination (examination of the vagina with a hand (one or two fingers)).<\/p>\n<p>If the doctor deems it necessary, an ultrasound examination may also be performed after a gynecological examination. Nowadays, ultrasound examinations are frequently performed after gynecological examinations.
