Acne in the genital area, one of the most common genital problems, can occur due to many different factors. These pimples, which disturb and reduce the quality of life, are similar in shape and appearance to pimples that appear in other parts of the body. Pimples can be painful or painless, shiny or dull, single or in groups, small or large, with or without inflammation.
Causes of Acne in the Genital Area
The most common causes of acne in the genital area are as follows:
1 . Folliculitis
As a result of inflammation and infection of the hair follicles in the genital area, acne called folliculitis may occur in these areas. Folliculitis is mostly caused by hair removal shaving of the genital area, tight clothing that causes friction of the skin, cuts and wounds, hair growing inwards, hygienic products and follicles blocked by sweat.
2 . Contact Dermatitis
When the skin encounters an allergen or irritant, a condition called contact dermatitis may occur. Factors that cause contact dermatitis, which causes acne in the genital area; shower gels, powders and deodorants, scented soaps, detergents, gels and lotions containing medicines, lubricating gels, condoms, sanitary pads, urine and sperm can cause acne.
3 . Acne inversa
This condition, which occurs in the lower part of the breasts and groin area, is associated with chronic inflammation of the sweat glands in these areas. Pimples are usually painful and inflamed.
4 . Molluscum contagiosum
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection that can occur almost anywhere on the body. This type of acne occurs as white or bright red lesions with a white center and a slight dent.
Acne Treatment in Genital Area
Acne that occurs in the genital area is usually acne that does not require treatment and disappears spontaneously. However, the important thing in treatment is to identify the underlying factor and eliminate it. It may be necessary to avoid products such as detergents and pads that come into contact with the genital area until the pimples disappear. In addition, attention should be paid to cleaning the area after acne formation, the area should be washed with warm water and kept dry. Products such as oil, scented soap, deodorant should not be used in the area, and places such as pools, hot water baths, Turkish baths, saunas should be avoided for a while. Tight clothes should be avoided and cotton underwear should be preferred.
