Having a baby is one of the most beautiful dreams many couples have in their lives. From the moment you decide to have a baby, every change that occurs in your body... You might mistake these changes for a sign of pregnancy. However, pregnancy also has its own specific symptoms, and reading and studying these symptoms beforehand can give you clues about your pregnancy.
When does pregnancy begin?
Pregnancy begins when sperm from the male fertilizes an egg cell released from the woman's ovaries during sexual intercourse. The period from fertilization until the end of the 8th week is called the embryonic period, and the period from the 8th week until birth is called the fetal period.
Gestational age is calculated by considering the first day of the last menstrual period as the beginning of pregnancy. Weeks and days, not months, are used in gestational age calculations. In a healthy expectant mother, pregnancy lasts 280 days (40 weeks).
What are the symptoms of pregnancy?
One of the most important signs of pregnancy is a missed period. However, not every missed period indicates pregnancy. Sometimes, factors such as stress, hormonal imbalances, diet, and psychological state can also cause a missed period. If other pregnancy symptoms are observed in addition to a missed period, then pregnancy can be suspected.

- Missed period
- Breast tenderness and fullness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Frequent urination
- Weakness

B hCG (pregnancy test) levels begin to rise immediately after fertilization. They reach measurable levels in the blood approximately one week after fertilization. While blood pregnancy tests provide a clear indication of pregnancy, urine tests can be misleading. Vaginal discharge or urinary tract infections, in particular, can cause false results on urine pregnancy tests. If you experience a missed period and suspect you are pregnant, you should contact your doctor.
I wish you healthy pregnancies at the desired time.
