Cleaning the vagina is one of the most important issues for women, but it is also very confusing. While many women think that vaginal cleansing should be done, many women are also misinformed. But should vaginal cleansing be done? Should the vagina be cleaned?
What is Vaginal Douching?
Vaginal douching is washing the inside of the vagina with pressurized water or other liquid. There are also perfumed products or medicines specially produced for women to perform vaginal cleansing.
Is Vaginal Douching Healthy?
Although many people think that vaginal douching is hygienic, it is actually not healthy. Regular vaginal douching disrupts the flora balance of the vagina. Washing the vagina can also lead to new microorganisms entering the vagina. These germs are very likely to reach the cervix, uterus and tubes. This possibility leads to dangerous infections in these areas.
Another dangerous effect of regular vaginal douching is pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Vaginal douching greatly increases the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease. In the long term, this can lead to infertility or, if left untreated, can be life-threatening.
Tips for Cleaning the Genital Area:
- The only type of cleansing that should be practiced is gentle washing of the external area called the vulva. You can wash this area with water only or you can also wash it with body shampoos. However, the point you should pay attention to here is to wash the area gently without rubbing it too much. Otherwise, you can cause small tears that invite infections.
- Be sure to dry your genital area well after bathing. Keeping the genital area moist is a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.
- Cotton underwear reduces sweating and allows the genital area to breathe. Try to make your underwear choices from cotton products.
- Choosing pants that are not tight, wide and comfortable will protect the health of the genital area.
- Products such as soap, perfume and wipes are harmful for the genital area. Such products disturb the acid-base balance of the vagina, causing burning, itching and risk of infection.
The vagina is an organ that cleans itself naturally with a secretion called mucus. It does not need any extra cleaning. Therefore, I advise you to be careful not to wash the inside of your vagina during showering, after sexual intercourse or after using the toilet.
I wish you to stay in good health…
